Tamarack Resort is Running on 100% Clean Energy
TAMARACK RESORT AND TAMARACK MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT THROUGH RENEWABLE ENERGY PURCHASE
TAMARACK, Idaho (October 29, 2019) – Tamarack Resort and the Tamarack Municipal Association (TMA) are now operating on 100 percent clean energy. With the help of Idaho Power and 3Degrees, Inc., Tamarack purchased 1,761 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to match its non-hydro electricity use and ultimately reduce its carbon footprint.
Almost half of the energy Tamarack Resort and other Idaho Power customers purchase comes from clean, local hydroelectric sources. Tamarack bought RECs through 3Degrees, Inc. from wind, solar, biomass or small hydropower production across the western United States to cover the rest of the resort’s electricity footprint.
“Idaho Power supports Tamarack’s commitment to clean energy, which aligns with our own goal to provide 100% clean energy to all customers by 2045,” said Bo Hanchey, Idaho Power vice president of customer operations. “We’re proud to give Tamarack a great start with a foundation of clean, affordable, reliable hydropower.”
Along with fully operating on 100 percent clean energy, Tamarack Resort has eliminated single- use plastic in the base area, keeping 134,000 individual pieces of plastic from landfill since August 2018. The resort recently completed a LED light conversion in its operation office. TMA has also replaced all inefficient outdoor lamps, including road lighting, with high-efficiency LED bulbs.
3Degrees is a renewable energy and climate solutions specialist dedicated to helping companies reduce greenhouse gas emissions and incorporate clean energy into their business operations.
“We are excited to be operating on 100% clean energy,” says Brad Larsen, Tamarack Resort general manager. “Our work with Idaho Power and 3Degrees helps us support the renewable energy market and is a positive step towards reducing carbon emissions.”
All of the RECs procured by Tamarack Resort and TMA with the help of 3Degrees are Green- e® certified. The 1,761 renewable megawatt hours of renewable energy generation Tamarack supports have an environmental impact similar to growing 20,755 tree seedlings for ten years or taking 264 cars off the road for a year.
